Crown Cotton Mill was built in 1884 as a brick and heavy timber structure. When it opened its doors, Crown Cotton Mill had 75 looms and 3,000 spindles and used 20 bales of cotton a day. With 325 mill hands, Crown Mill was one of the first large-scale cotton mills in Northwest Georgia.

In 2005, the property was fully renovated and converted into beautiful luxury apartment lofts. Today, Crown Mill's weathered red-brick walls, exposed beams and original wood flooring provide the backdrop to new stories and histories being lived each day by its residents.

Standing nearby is the Hamilton House, where the landowner and mill father George Hamilton lived. The Hamilton House, is the oldest brick house in Dalton. George Hamilton is the namesake for Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton. The mill was added to the National Historic Register in 1979.
